Does God hear and answer prayers today? The answer to that question is always yes. Sometimes it does not look like God is answering prayer when we are looking at our circumstances. According to Ephesians 3:20, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding and abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us." God not only tells us that He is able to do what we ask, but He is also able to do what we think -- exceedingly and abundantly!
Jesus said in John 15:7 -- "If you abide in me and My words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you." The key here is abiding in Him and His word. There has been an excitement among the inmates as they experience answers to their prayers. Some have finally received court dates after being incarcerated for months. Some are receiving visits from their loved ones, and others have been released early. I tell them if they are truly born again, then they are powerful Christians with covenant rights to make petitions to God in Jesus name and receive answers.
They have a confidence they haven't experienced before. God actually listens and answers their prayers. We have watched them come into a deeper relationship with the Lord. We have been ministering inside institutions for sixteen years. God is doing a new thing among inmates so they won't be disqualified running this race. It is because of your prayers - as well as theirs - that we are seeing such great changes in lives.
As I have shared with you about prayer among the inmates, I'd also like to tell you about an answer to prayer that we received. Last week, Irish and Titus (our youngest son) were in an automobile accident that totaled our car. Irish was driving Titus to the doctor and I was following behind them. She was going to fill out paperwork at the doctor's office. I was to take Titus with me and join her at the jail afterwards.
A young man failed to yield the right-of-way and turned left into their path. The air bag deployed hitting Irish with a hard blow in her abdomen. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance with excruciating neck, back and pelvis pain. I immediately prayed. I then got on my phone and call several people to pray for her. This was a frightening moment for us! I took Titus on to school and headed for the hospital. When I arrived at the ER, Irish was still crying from pain. I prayed again for her and called more people to pray. The results after many CAT scans and x-rays, were no broken bones or internal damage. It did cause some complications to her back and muscle spasms in her neck and arm. If you could see the car, you'd know why we have a praise report. Titus walked away with a bruised leg. The other people were okay as well.
It's difficult for me to express what I experienced on May 13th, but I know that prayer to God works! "God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that worketh in us", exceedingly and abundantly!! You will find that He will not fail you! As the inmates are learning, God hears and answers prayers. We are living breathing testimonies that God answers prayers!
Thank you for praying for us as we go about doing the work of the Lord. Thank you for praying for the inmates as they learn to walk faithfully with God. We count is a joy and a privilege to serve the Lord with you.
In Christ,
